About him
I used to be a business journalist and had my own company for a number of years before retiring. Not one to sit around all day, I keep active playing tennis a few times a week and using my rowing machine if it's cold or wet. I grew up in Pembrokeshire with its long, sandy beaches and, living in the Cotswolds, have lovely country walks from my front door. I feel very lucky.
Though my skiing days are probably behind me, I thoroughly enjoy most sports, especially rugby union, tennis, horse racing, polo and F1 (but not darts, is that even a sport?
I can easily get lost in a good book, mainly autobiographies or anything from Robert Harris to Anne Tyler, William Boyd to Jeremy Clarkson. I’ve recently joined the Art Society - sounds pretentious but it’s not - and love to read any article by Waldemar Januszczak. My favourite mags are Private Eye and the Spectator and I try to keep up to date with politics and world events, although I'm a bit disillusioned with most of it.
I lost my wife six years ago but we had a smashing life together. My son is a hospital consultant and lives in Bath.
Since 2019 I have completed some work for Cancer Research UK. I support the wonderful Guide Dog charity and help out at a small theatre in Cirencester. Try to cook with more variety and potter in the garden which is looking okay with lots of bulbs going in.

I would like to meet a confident, independent woman who knows her own mind and enjoys the good things that life has to offer - the sea and sandy beaches, a cosy pub with good food, chatting over coffee about nothing in particular, meeting family and friends as we get to know each other. I don’t need to chat incessantly but ideally we would have lots to talk about and share similar family values.
It would be great to meet a woman who is happy in herself, who enjoys swimming in the sea, short breaks in the UK or abroad or simply watching TV in front of a log fire. It’s more important that we take time to find out what makes each other tick as friends first of all and then who knows?
Oh and I prefer dogs to cats.
